Most wireless networking equipment has a range of up to 300 feet indoors and 1500 feet outdoors. For best results, WOW! recommends that equipment you are connecting wirelessly be within 150 feet of the Home Networking Advanced Modem. The wireless signal will penetrate most walls, so you can have devices in different rooms and on different floors and still stay connected to the network.
The wireless signal will typically go through two to three walls before you experience loss of signal. If you have a large home, or a home with thick or dense walls, it is suggested that you place the wireless router in a high, central location. If you want network access outside, it is suggested that you place the wireless router near a window. You should also try to keep the wireless router away from any large metal objects as these may hinder its range.
-
Yes, WOW supports connecting a Macintosh computer to the home network as long as it meets the minimum system requirements. If you have both Windows-based PCs and Macintosh computers on your home network, file and printer sharing activation between the two are not supported.

WOW! will provide you with the WPA key so you can connect other wireless devices to your network. WOW! does not support wireless printers, game consoles, wireless handhelds or sling boxes. WOW! will connect computers that meet the minimum requirements for WOW! Home Networking.
-
WOW! Home Networking supports WPA encryption. If you would like to use WEP encryption with WOW! Home Networking, you will need to purchase your own wireless router or an wireless adapter that is WPA compliant.

Port forwarding (or port mapping) allows certain applications on your computer or home network to bypass your firewall to gain unrestricted access to the Internet. This is most commonly used with video game consoles. Because of security risks, it is not recommended that you use port forwarding for web surfing or day-to-day Internet activities.
Placing a device in the DMZ (in front of the firewall) is useful for troubleshooting connectivity issue or intermittent connectivity issues, particularly with video conferences, chat programs, and video games. The router's firewall can cause issues when trying to connect to these devices/programs. To solve this problem, a device can be placed in front of the firewall (in the DMZ), bypassing all security on the router. Placing a device in the DMZ leaves the device vulnerable for attack. This process should only be used as a last resort if needed, and is not recommended if the most current security updates are not in place and additional security is installed on the device being placed in the DMZ.
If you need to bypass the router's security, port forwarding is more secure as it doesn't bypass all security. For more information, or to get help setting up port forwarding or placing a device in front of the firewall (in the DMZ) on a WOW! supplied router, please call 1-866-496-9669.

You will need to provide with the MAC address of your modem by calling 1-866-496-9669. Generally, the MAC address can be found on the bottom of the modem, usually on a barcode sticker, along with the modem's serial number.
Most times the MAC address will appear after the letters "MAC" or "EA" (e.g., MAC 00-12-ab-34-cd-5e). Some Motorola modems will display only the "SN" (e.g., SN 8386848). The MAC address is the alphanumeric code that appears after the "MAC" or "EA" or "SN" on Motorola modems.
-
If your modem is not working and you need to restart the modem, turn off your computer, then unplug the power cord from the back of the modem, plug the power cord back into the modem and wait for the lights on the front of the modem to come back on. When they are on and operating normally, restart your computer again.
-
First check that your coaxial cable, power, Ethernet/USB, and modem connections are tight. Next, check to see if your modem is connected to the WOW! network:
- Look at your cable modem and confirm that the online or cable light is solid green.
- If the light is green and is not blinking, unplug the modem's power cord, wait two minutes, then plug it back in.

Creating IMAP Folders
To create a new folder:
1. Control-click (or right-click if you have a multi-button mouse) on the Inbox for your account (if you have multiple accounts within Mail.app, you'll see sub-Inboxes in the left sidebar that have the names you've assigned each account), and select "NewMailbox..."
2. In the resulting dialog, make sure that the correct account is selected in the drop-down menu, and enter a name for the mailbox (e.g. "Sent" if you're onMediaTemple).
The mailbox is created on the server, and Mail.app updates its folder list for that account. Do this as many times as you want, whenever you need a new folder to help organize your messages.
Setting Mail.app
Once folders exist, in order for Mail.app to save your drafts or copies of your sent messages it needs to know where to put them, so this final step is the most important:
1. Click the folder name that matches the function you want to assign (e.g. "Sent") so it is highlighted in thelist
2. Go to Mailbox → Use This Mailbox For → [function name] (e.g. "Sent"again)
Your folder will disappear from the list, and reappear as a sub-folder beneath the function you specified, with the same name as the account it's connected to. So, if your account name is "My IMAP Account", the "Sent" folder will now be located under "Sent → My IMAP Account" in the Mail.app sidebar.

Download speed is the time it takes for your computer to access a webpage from a server. Upload speed is the time it takes for your computer to send information to a remote computer. For example, a higher download speed means that your browser will load pictures from a photo sharing website faster. A higher upload speed means that you will be able to post pictures to that same website more quickly than someone with a slower speed.
-
Multiple users normally will not affect the speed of your connection nor will watching TV and surfing the Internet at the same time. However, if one or more users are doing something that requires a large amount of bandwidth, like watching an online video or playing a game, you may notice slower speeds.

In order to support their content without charging visitors, many websites sell advertising space on their web pages. Ad networks provide technology for the websites and advertisers to display ads on the websites. This practice is referred to as ad serving. The ad network works at the direction – and on behalf – of the websites and advertisers.
-
Cookies are small files stored on a computer’s hard drive to simplify and improve a user’s Web experience. A website may store information in a cookie about your computer configuration so that it can more efficiently provide information to you the next time you visit the site. Or, your browser program might save a cookie with your username and password so that a website’s server will automatically recognize you the next time you access the site.
Ad networks use cookies to enable ad serving. The ad network will set or recognize a unique, persistent cookie when an ad is displayed or the user begins web surfing.

Yes, parental control is included with WOW! Security.
Parental Control allows parents to control access to Internet content that might be harmful for small children or teenagers and includes a Time Lock to limit the time that children can spend on the Internet.
With Parental Control you can
- Control the time of day when access to the Internet is available to your children.
- Determine what web sites the computer user can access. Restricted sites cannot be accessed without the parental password.
Parental Control browsing modes
- Small child browsing mode
The Child browsing mode is active by default after product installation or after you have restarted the computer. When the Small child browsing mode is active, users can access only those web sites that are specifically allowed for them.
- Teenager browsing mode
When the Teenager browsing mode is active, users can access all Internet sites except those containing restricted content, such as drugs or adult material. Parents can deny additional sites or allow access to blocked sites for this browsing mode.
- Parent browsing mode
When the Parent browsing mode is active, you can access all Internet content without any time restrictions. When you install Parental Control, you are asked to create a password for the Parent browsing mode.
Web page filter
The Web Page Filter controls which web pages and web sites are filtered for each browsing mode. It analyzes and filters web pages automatically based on their content.
- You can modify the Web Page Filter settings by selecting Internet > Parental Control > Teenager and clicking the View catgories link.
- For users of the Teenager browsing mode, you can select whether you want to filter web pages by category, or just log all visited web pages.
- For users of the Small child browsing mode, you can select to allow only web sites that are suitable for children.
Allowing and denying web pages
Web Site list keeps track of web pages that have been accessed, and lists allowed and denied pages for each browsing mode.
Browsing Protection
The new Browsing Protection feature tells you which websites are safe to enter and which you should avoid. Harmful sites are blocked automatically to ensure safe surfing, while Parental Control keeps your children safe from inappropriate web content.

Phishing is the term coined by Internet scammers who imitate real companies to entice people to share user names, passwords, account information or credit card numbers. The most common ploy is to copy the look and feel of a web page or email from a major company and use that design to set up a nearly identical page that appears to be part of the company's site.
To avoid being the victim of a phishing scam, be suspicious of any email that asks for your personal account information, such as user names, passwords, and account numbers. Always make sure you use a secure server when submitting credit card information. To make sure you're using a secure server, check the beginning of the web address in your browsers address bar - it should be https:// rather than just http://. If you think you have replied to a fraudulent email with personal information, contact the company immediately.
WOW! will never ask you for personal information (passwords, usernames, billing or payment information) via email.

The Enhanced version is a full web-based "e-mail client", providing full functionality including drag and drop capabilities and mouse over functions for maps, dates and e-mail addresses. The Enhanced version also has the ability to perform "right-click" for common functions. Many portions of the Enhanced version interface allow pop-up action menus that appear when you pass your cursor over an item such as a folder and click your right mouse button. The exact menu choices that appear depend on the type of item.
Right clicking on the following displays right-click menus:
- Conversations. You can mark conversations as read or unread, apply tags to conversations, delete conversations, or move conversations between folders.
- Messages. You can reply to or forward the message, edit the message as new, mark it as read or unread, apply tags to the message, delete the message, move it to another folder, print, show original header information, and create a new filter. It's very easy for some users to confuse the Enhanced e-mail client with other webmail interfaces. The truth is that the Enhanced e-mail client truly runs more like a software client that you would run on your PC like Outlook or Outlook Express. When comparing loading time, it's more accurate to compare Enhanced Mail loading time to the time it would take to load a higher-end e-mail client from the PC. When viewed from this perspective, it loads in comparable times to most software clients. The advantage, of course, is that your Enhanced e-mail client is available from anywhere you have access to a PC and a broadband connection.
-
You can access your WOW! e-mail account from any web browser with WOW! Webmail. Simply go to the WOW! Customer Home Page at http://portal.wowway.net to access your e-mail from the web. If you haven’t already registered, you will need to register first to begin checking your e-mail from the web.
